A picture from John Freeth, with his kind permission, shows 73050 on a train at Bath Green Park on 8th February 1964.  Not looking very cared-for, two months later she was transferred to Llanelli at the start of wanderings that led eventually to Peterborough.

After the exhibition, 73050 was moved to the shed she’d been allocated, Bath Green Park in the Southern Region, code 71G until 1958 when, on transfer to the Western Region, it was reassigned 82F.

From here she and her sisters, 73051 and 73052, hauled trains over the Somerset and Dorset Line and over lines toward the midlands.

This continued for 10 years, with a 3-month spell at Gloucester in 1962. In 1964 the loco was transferred to Llanelli and almost immediately on to Shrewsbury.

An 11 or 12 coach train justifies the double-heading.

From here, there’s about 4 miles of undulating climb, followed by 3 miles at 1 in 50 to Chilcompton Tunnel.

More humble pickings as 73050 plods southwards in 1960.
